THE PERFECT HUMAN

The Perfect Human (1967) : Jorgen Leth
“We will look into that, we will investigate that.”

Jorgen Leth's short film “The Perfect Human” discusses social and personal systems of ideals and how we go about defining what is, and is not perfect. Analyzing a middle class Danish couple performing everyday rituals-- motions of dressing, drinking and sleeping-- with aggressive rigor and manner that is unprecedented. The object becomes objectivity; how do we scientifically deconstruct something that is innately human?

The work's maturity, contunous questioning and language barrier ( which only serves to amplify the distance between the viewer and the subject) make it unnerving and confrontational while continuing to anchor a deep sense of human behavioral analysis.
